CHENNAI: Jayalalithaa aide, VK Sasikala’s request for early release from jail has been rejected by the Agrahara Jail authorities in Bengaluru. She was serving a four-year-term in a disproportionate assets case in which the deceased Jayalalithaa was the main accused. Sasikala’s jail term ends in January, but her plea was that she was entitled to a remission in sentence as is allowed to prisoners for their good conduct in jail.
Sasikala is expected to spice up the Tamil Nadu politics after her release, though the ruling AIDMK which she headed for a short while after Jaya’s demise is now in the hands of chief minister Edappadi Palaniswamy and his deputy O Pannerselvam.
Though Palani was made CM at Sasikala’s behest, he and OPS do not want Sasikala to return to leadership. Sasikala’s nephew Dinakaran had, in between, formed a party of his own.
Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu is slated for May, 2021.– IHN-NN
