NEWS LoC FIRING
SRINAGAR: Several casualties were reported as Indian and Pakistani soldiers engaged in major offensives and counter-offensives along the Line of Control on Friday night. While four security personnel were among 10 killed in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in the LoC from Gurez sector to Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, at least eight Pakistani soldiers as also 12 civilians were killed on the Pakistani side due to Indian retaliatory action, as per first reports.
Indian Army pounded several Pakistani positions along the LoC in north Kashmir with anti-tank guided missiles and artillery guns in retaliatory strikes, reports quoting military sources said.
“Three Army personnel, a BSF sub-inspector and six civilians were killed in Pakistani action while four security forces personnel and eight civilians were injured. At least eight Pakistani soldiers were also killed and 12 others injured thereafter,” Indian military sources said.
Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan used mortars and other weapons and deliberately targeted civilian areas. Our troops retaliated strongly, causing causalities and substantial damage to Pakistan Army’s infrastructure across the LoC. “Several ammunition dumps, FOL dumps and multiple terrorist launch pads have been damaged,” the defence spokesman stated. –IHN-NN
