CPIM .. Central Committee nod to CPIM West Bengal unit for poll ties with Congress; ties with DMK in TN

NEW DELHI: The CPIM will enter into an electoral alliance with the Congress in the upcoming West Bengal assembly polls, the party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Saturday. He was speaking to the media on the second day of the party’s central committee meeting. He reiterated that the CPIM wanted to defeat both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP in West Bengal. The central committee has given its nod for such an electoral alliance, he said. In Tamil Nadu, the CPIM will continue its association with the DMK in the coming assembly polls.The CPIM leader made it clear that the Kerala state CPIM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will not have to resign in the context of the arrest of his son Bineesh Kodiyeri by the Enforcement Directorate in Bengaluru to probe his sources of finance and check whether he had any link to terrorist-related outfits by way of money deals. Bineesh is not a member of the CPIM, Yechury stressed. The central secretariat also backed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his LDF government in the state in connection with the ED arrest of a principal secretary to CMO, M Sivashankar, in connection with the gold smuggling case. Yechury said the Modi government was unleashing the central agencies in Kerala to target the CPIM and its government. This will be opposed, he said. Politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said there is no allegation against Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. the CPIM secretary, but only against his son. “We live in a corrupt society.
