NEWS LAND KASHMIR
NEW DELHI: Curbs on land purchase in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have been lifted by an executive order. The historic decision means any Indian citizen can own land in these Union Territories, where so far only locals could have such possessions.
The new rule follows the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government in August last, which stripped these three landmasses of both special status and state designation. A gazette notification styled as the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of Central Laws) Third Order, 2020 has been issued, which took effect immediately.
Local pro-Muslim parties were taken aback. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah alleged that “J&K is now up for sale”. He said even the token domicile is now done away with. “Purchase non-agricultural land & transfer of agricultural land has been made easier. The poorer small landholding owners will suffer,” Abdullah tweeted. –IHN-NN
