KOCHI: The Kerala government’s attempt to thwart the handover of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport’s operation under a lease agreement to the Adani Enterprises Ltd failed, as the high court here has dismissed all petitions against the Adani group in this connection on Monday. The Centre had taken the decision to lease the airport to the Adani group after it floated tenders in which the Kerala Government too has submitted a bid. However, the rent that Adani quoted was higher than that quoted by the Kerala government. Hence, the decision went in favour of Adani. While the CPIM and some other political parties and their leaders made a hue and cry over handover of the airport to the Adani group, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram and former Union minister Shashi Tharoor was among those who have backed the Union Government decision, on the ground that a Kerala government entity cannot run the airport in a modern style, the way the Adani with global experience in such matters can do.
