NEW DELHI: Nearly 1.5million candidates will appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) tomorrow, even as the Covid spread has cast a shadow over the prestigious examinations this time. The exams are meant exclusively for admissions to medical and dental courses in government and private institutions.
Norms of social distancing and wearing of masks, washing of hands, use of sanitizers etc will be followed strictly at the 2843 examination centres across the country, The number of candidates in each examination hall has been reduced to 12 from the normal 24.
The exam was originally to take place on May 3, which was postponed to July 26 due to the Covid-related worries, and then to September 13.
While the government wanted to hold the exams, there were resistance from some quarters, which citied a health risk to the young candidates. Following this, the Supreme Court intervened and ordered that the exams should be held as time was precious to the students. IHN-NN
