BENGALURU ON THE BOIL: CRPF spreads out in streets to check mob fury over facebook post

BENGALURU: Bengaluru, known for its peace, is on the boil. CRPF units have spread out to take charge of law and order after as many as three persons  died in  violence that broke out in the city Tuesday over a religiously sensitive post on the facebook page of a youth, a relative of a Congress MLA.

A mob from the aggrieved minority community attacked the house of the Congress MLA, R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, leading to police lathicharge and massive arrests. Several persons have been injured in the attack, and over 150 persons have been arrested in this connection, police said on Wednesday. The incidents were centered around Pulikeshi Nagar.

The nephew denied knowledge of the post, and claimed his account was hacked. However, until the trouble erupted, he had not made any such complaint. The minority community activists say the post insulted a religious figure. As many as 60 cops were injured in the violence, some of them seriously. IHN-NN
