NEWS OLI AYODHYA
KATHMANDU: Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, is a small village near Kathmandu, not in India, claimed Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday. The Prime Minister also said Lord Ram was Nepali. Nepal is a Hindu nation, like India. The two nations maintained close fraternal relations until recently.
The PM, who is currently having a tiff with India and released a new map of Nepal by including some areas possessed by India, made the comment at a cultural programme held at his residence, Nepalese media reported. Oli accused India of cultural oppression and encroachment, and said Nepal’s contribution to science had been undervalued.
“We still believe we gave Sita to Prince Ram, but we gave the prince too, from Ayodhya, not India. Ayodhya is a village a little west (of) Birgunj (a district in Nepal that is around 135km away from capital Kathmandu),” Prime Minister Oli was quoted as saying, by the Nepali news web site setopati.com
The Constitutional change effected by Nepal to turn it into a secular nation, from being a Hindu nation, some time ago, had set the Modi government against Nepal. Also, Nepal’s strengthening of relations with China in recent years is seen by India as being offensive to this country. –Agencies, IHN-NN
