NEW DELHI: All those who arrive in New Delhi –by air, rail or road—will have to undergo a mandatory home quarantine for a week, the government has announced in a reduction from the previous 14-day quarantine. The order issued by the Disaster Management Authority on Wednesday said.
Wednesday saw the Covid-19 tally in the Northern Capital Region rising by 1,513, taking the capital’s total infections to nearly 24,000. Over 600 persons affected by the Chinese virus died in the capital since March last. With 8,900 infections on Wednesday, the total covid cases in the country rose to 2.07lakh. As many as 217 deaths were reported from various parts of the country in a single day on Wednesday.
The worst-affected areas are Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Varanasi, Jaipur, Agra, Jaipur, Lucknow and Hyderabad. In Maharashtra state alone, the total covid cases so far were of the order of 72,300 while the covid-linked deaths in the state were of 2,467. Chennai, the second worst-hit, reported 24,600 cases so far, with nearly 200 deaths. In Gujarat, nearly 18,000 people were reported Covid positive so far, while over 1,000 deaths were reported from the state. In the state, the commercial hub of Ahmedabad remained the worst-hit. –IHN-NN
