NEW DELHI: India’s eastern metropolis, Kolkata, is battered by the cyclonic storm Amphan, flooding habitations, snapping electricity connections to most localities, and killing no less than 15 people. Amphan, that hit the West Bengal coast on Wednesday and swept through the coastal regions of Bengal and Odisha, also caused massive damage to neighbouring Bangladesh.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was faced with a war-like situation. The grim scenario ran parallel with the Covid health crisis that infected over 3,000 people in the state so far and the main storm and floods affected areas are the South and North 24 Parganas districts and the East Midnapore.
