NEW DELHI: Covid cases in India rose to nearly 19,000 on Tuesday, with over 1,300 more cases reported in the past 24 hours, as per a notification from the Union Government. The hotspot of Maharashtra recorded 4670 cases on Tuesday. Mumbai reported over 3,000 cases. The Union health ministry said the country so far has recorded 603 Covid-related deaths. There were 44 deaths in the past 24 hours, as per records released by the ministry.
Worldwide, France recorded some 20,000 deaths due to the pandemic.
In India, as per the ministry data, states of Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat crossed the 2000 mark in terms of Covid deaths while Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh crossed the 1,500 mark. Overall, the scenario is improving.
Kerala, from where the first Covid death was reported in late January, the pandemic was mostly controlled through effective interventions at the state government level, while stray cases of foreign-returning coming in with the virus from the Gulf and elsewhere continued. The state reported hardly any death, other than two or three, and the rest of the infected, less than 2000, were being treated to safety or discharged from hospitals after they were cured of the virus hit.
