NEW DELHI: Several flights have been diverted and train services were largely disrupted in the national capital on Wednesday morning, as a dense fog enveloped the city and its surroundings. Indian Meteorological Department said the fog was caused by a fall in wind speed and that the temperature in the morning was at 7 degree C.
As many as five flights could not land, due to low visibility, and were diverted to other airports. Over 20 trains in the region are running late, reports said. The situation is slowly easing. “The situation is likely to continue till 10 am to 11 am and improve thereafter, “the IMD said .
The weather department said a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from January 24. “Dense to very dense fog observed over Punjab, north Rajasthan, Haryana & Delhi, East UP and Bihar at 0530 hours IST of today. Visibility recorded at 0530 hours IST of today (in meters): Patiala, Bikaner, Churu, Hissar, Delhi, Baharaich, Gorakhpur & Patna-25 each; Lucknow-50,” the IMD said. IHN-NN
