NEW DELHI: In a curious twist to the “Maha” tale, a former Union minister stated on Monday that BJP leader and ex-CM Devendra Fadnavis formed and ran a government for 80 hours a week ago as part of a plan to save Rs. 40,000crore of central funds at the disposal of Maharashtra. “The money was sent to the central government within 15 hours of swearing in of Fadnavis,” said north Kannada BJP MP, Anantkumar Hegde at a public function in Sirsi taluk on November 29.
CNN News 18 quoted him as saying: “You all know, the other day in Maharashtra, our person (Fadnavis) became CM for just 80 hours. Then he resigned. Why was this drama staged? Did we know? Why did he become CM knowing we didn’t have majority? This is a question everyone will naturally ask. The CM had access to more than Rs 40,000crore of central funds lying with Maharashtra government.”
“Fadnavis as CM had control over this. If the Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena came to power, this definitely won’t be used for development. This was all planned before. The money was “sent to the central government” within 15 hours of Fadnavis being sworn in.”
“We decided we have to do something. Some big drama. That’s why we adjusted a bit and the CM was sworn in. In 15 hours, he sent the money to where it needs to go; sent it all to central government. If it was here, then the next CM… you know what would happen,” the report quoted Hegde as saying.
Devendra Fadnavis, who was sworn in on November 23 and quit the post three days later, said what Hegde stated was rubbish.
