CHENNAI: Actor Rajinkanth said on Friday he has no plans to join the BJP. The comment amid speculations after he met BJP state leader and former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan. He denied he received any invitation to join the saffron party. He said efforts to paint him or poet Thiruvalluvar in saffron will not succeed.
Speculations were rife about Rajinikanth edging closer to the BJP, after he declared his plans to enter politics and float a party, in 2016, but he said nothing concrete has emerged so far. He was still in the works to form a party, he said, and also pointed out that MGR took a long time to conceive the contours of political party before he launched it.
Pon Radhakrishnan met Rajinikanth on November 6 at his Poes Garden residence, a while after he openly invited the super star to join the BJP, while addressing a rally in Pudukottai on October 22.
The Union Government meanwhile announced its plan honour Rajinikanth, who holds a unique position in Indian film world. A plan is to honour him with the Icon of the Golden Jubilee award by IFFI, the organisers of the International Film Festival of India, in Goa. –IHN-NN
