TVM: Vocal Congress MP and former Union minister Shashi Tharoor said all of India will stand behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi as and when the PM raised the Kashmir issue at the UN.
Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is heading for Geneva to target India on abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution in Kashmir which ended the autonomous status for the troubled, terrorist-affected state. The 42ndsession of the UN Human Rights Council is meeting in Geneva from Tuesday.
“What India did now in Kashmir had been done by Pakistan too in the past, in its restive Gilhit Baltistan province and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. They have no right to question our actions in Kashmir,” Tharoor, a former top UN diplomat stated.
He noted that PM Modi is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly in the coming days, when too Pakistan is likely to rake up the Kashmir issues. “The entire Opposition stands by the PM when he speaks at the UN. We criticise the government on some of the Kashmir issues, here, but we support the PM when he speaks at the UN. We stand as one behind the PM on Kashmir at the UN fora,” he said.
Tharoor said Pakistan should not interfere in Indian affairs like Jammu and Kashmir’s change of status into a Union Territory or of its bifurcation. He however made it clear that the troubles faced by Kashmiris after the recent imposition of curfew etc there must be sorted out and solved by the government as early as possible. IHN-NN
