MURALI IN PERU … Union minister on a visit of Latin American countries to promote bilateral ties

LIMA/ NEW DELHI: India is keen on strengthening its ties with Latin American/Caribbean countries in the second term of the Modi government. Union minister of state for external affairs, V Muraleedharan, held talks with Peru’s foreign affairs minister Nestor Popolicio here, on matters of bilateral interest including the holding of a session of the India-Peru Joint Commission. 

The foreign minister promised Peru’s support for India when it takes up important matters in the United Nations. Muraleedharan met the Peru minister at the Palaceo de Tore Taggle (palace), which houses Peru’s foreign ministry. 

The visit is part of the Indian minister’s three-nation Latin American visit to promote bilateral ties between India and the nations in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attaches great importance to promotion of ties between India and nations in Latin America. The discussions are guided from Delhi by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar based on briefings from PM Modi.
