NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate says former Union minister P Chidambaram’s son Karthi has purchased a tennis club in Spain and cottages in the United Kingdom with the bribes he took from INX Media for governmental favours extended it. This was apart from the several prime properties he acquired in India while Chidambaram was minister, the ED says.
Chidambaram is co-accused in this case, as also in the Airtel-Maxis 2G Scam case. Extensive investigations led to the conclusion that a lot of funds manipulations were done by Karthi through multiple channels.
Meanwhile, the central authorities have issued a lookout notice against P Chidambaram, who is suspectedly absconding and not present at his Delhi home Tuesday. ED sleuths waited for the whole night at his home for PC’s return, and later issued the lookout notice. PC has also been barred from travel abroad, and airports have been alerted, official sources said.
Chidambaram made an unsuccessful attempt to pre-empt his arrest by approaching the Supreme Court through his lawyers, after the Delhi high court rejected him anticipatory bail on Tuesday. The SC initially refused to entertain the plea, but might reconsider the matter later Wednesday. –IHN-NN
