UPDATE: 10pm: NEW DELHI: The subcommittees formed Saturday by the CWC to recommend a suitable name for the post of party president threw their arms up and reverted to Rahul Gandhi with a plea that he continue to head the party. Rahul Gandhi had quit the party president post on May 25 after the disastrous defeat of the party in the LS polls 2019, even as he led the campaign from the front.
NEW DELHI: The Congress Working Committee was busy discussing the selection of a new head for the grand old party in place of Rahul Gandhi. Split into groups, the CWC members started brain-storming to identify the right choice for president post, as per a proposal made by Rahul Gandhi in the presence of Sonia Gandhi at the CWC meet earlier in the day.

After setting the process in motion, both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi exited from the meet to give sufficient freedom to other leaders to thrash out the matter. Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi however stayed back to participate in the discussions.
The groups will present their proposals to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi later this evening, and a final decision on who the president or working president could be known by tonight, as per indications this afternoon. –IHN-NN
