AGUSTA CHOPPER SCAM: Kamal Nath’s nephew gives the ED the slip via "toilet"

Ratul Puri… escape act

NEW DELHI: Lack of alertness on the part of the Enforcement Directorate created a shameful situation for the nation’s premier investigative agency when MP chief minister Kamal Nath’s nephew, Ratul Puri, gave a slip to the sleuths here on Saturday.

Puri heads the private Hindustan Power Projects. He escaped from questioning at the ED office, by telling the sleuths he was going to the loo, and disappeared. He did so a short while after he arrived there on summons from the ED and was asked to wait a while.

He is facing money-laundering charges in relation to the VVIP chopper scam which had happened during the UPA-II period. All the corruption-related cases of the UPA period are moving slow during the Modi governance, which is into the sixth year now. These also include the huge banking fraud cases involving business sharks, willful defaulters, who refuse to repay the hefty loans they took by circumventing usual norms. Investigating agencies are allegedly not being serious about taking investigations to their logical conclusions.

Ratul Puri had meanwhile obtained interim bail till Monday from a local court, in connection with the money laundering case.
The AgustaWestland chopper scam involved a  deal of Rs 3,600crore, involving huge commissions to third parties. It was scrapped by the UPA II government itself after reports about the scam erupted. IHN-NN
