JAILED FINALLY … Supreme Court rejects plea from Saravana Bhavan founder for extension of bail in 2001 murder case

Rajagopal and Jeevajyothi

NEW DELHI: The “ailing” Saravana Bhavan founder and murder convict P Rajagopal is finally in jail. He surrendered before the Madras High Court Tuesday, carrying with him oxygen masks etc.

The Supreme Court had some days ago rejected his plea for more time to surrender. He had been convicted and sentenced to life term for the murder of an employee, Shantakumar.
As per the case, the murder took place as Rajagopal wanted to forcibly marry Shantakumar’s wife Jeevajyothi. Rajagopal is on bail since 2009 on “health” grounds, but the court recently asked him to surrender by July 7. The murder took place in 2001. He has sought more time to surrender on medical grounds, and this has been rejected. IHN-NN
