NEWS JAIL MURDER BITTU
CHANDIGARH: The state police is put on high alert in view of likely communal tensions after a murder in jail of the main accused in the desecrating the Shri Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari in Faridkot; an incident that took place in 2015. Accused Mahinderpal Bittu was fatally attacked by two men lodged in the jail. Bittu was rushed to a hospital in Patiala, but he was declared “dead on arrival.” The attack took place early in the morning, 5pm, on Saturday.
Bittu is a follower of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect. Police said 49-year-old Bittu was attacked by convicts Gursewak Singh and Maninder Singh, both involved in a previous murder case. Chief minister Amarinder Singh ordered an inquiry into the attack at the New Nabha prison. Additional Director General of Prisons, Rohit Chaudhary, will head a fact-finding committee set up by the Prisons department to go into the murder incident. –IHN-NN
