PREZ ADDRESS … Everyone’s welfare the new Modi government’s aim, asserts President Kovind in his inaugural address


NEW DELHI: Formally launching the functioning of the second NDA government led by PM Modi on Thursday, President Ram Nath Kovind told a joint session of the Parliament here that Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas is the central aim of the new dispensation.  The President, in his inaugural address of the first session of the 17th Parliament, hailed the success of democratic process as was evident in the large-scale participation of people in the voting for the Lok Sabha polls. 

Noted the President, “Despite intense heat, people came to vote in large numbers. Women also came out in large numbers.” The Lok Sabha, which met on Monday and went through the basic formalities like swearing in of members as also election of a new Speaker etc, would now begin its actual business. 

“The mandate of the election asserts that the people want unhindered and fast progress,” the President noted, adding,”they aspire to move forward at a fast pace. Hence, they gave even higher majority this time to the largest party.”
By 2022, India completes 75 years of Independence and my government is working at a faster pace to build a new India, the President said, and noted that it aimed at turning into a $5trillion economy.

The President stressed that rural India and urban India must progress hand in hand. “I am happy to say my government has made it a point to help uplift people from poverty and provide them all basic amenities to enable them live with dignity. My government is also determined to secure the nation from all external and internal threats.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting a dinner for all members of both houses of Parliament on Thursday evening at the Ashoka Hotel here. IHN-NN
