NEWS DINNER PM
NEW DELHI: “Wonderful evening with MP colleagues over dinner. Cutting across party lines, we had great conversations through this programme,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted after holding a dinner for MPs from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, at Hotel Ashoka on Thursday evening. Some prominent leaders, parties and their MPs kept away. It was a vegetarian treat. PM Modi is strictly vegetarian.
Notably, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi did not turn up for the dinner meet.
Among the others who were present, including the MPs from the ruling and Opposition sides, the bitterness of the pre-poll campaign days were a thing of the past, and a great sense of bonhomie prevailed.
MPs from Trinamool Congress, the CPIM and the CPI, and the BSP and the RJD did not attend the meet. Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad, DMK’s Kannimozhi, and AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh were among the prominent opposition figures present.
The MPs trooped into the hotel well in time for the dinner meet, and they kept party differences aside while mixing freely among the guests. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were also present. The ministers of the Modi-2 Team were prominently present.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, who is now not an MP, was prominently present. Former minister Maneka Gandhi was also present.
This was the PM’s way of celebrating the huge mandate he and the BJP got in the Lok Sabha Polls 2019. IHN-NN
