NEW DELHI: The minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan was in Nigeria on Wednesday as India’s ministerial representative at the Independence Day celebrations organised by President Muhammadu Buhari at Eagle Square in Abuja.
The African nation extricated itself from military rule to democracy in 1999. The minister will be in Lagos Thursday, will attend a reception by the Indian community there, and also visit the Ilipeju temple there.

The minister will return to New Delhi after attending a reception accorded to him by the Indian community, in Dubai Friday. The minister, who has been named the deputy chief whip of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha, is also attached to the parliamentary affairs department.
