IN UP AGAIN: Bar Council chief shot dead by lawyer whom she helped come up in life

AGRA: A woman lawyer who was elected three days ago as the first woman chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, has been shot dead. She was 38-year-old Darvesh Yadav. The incident took place in the afternoon on Wednesday.

Police said another lawyer, Manish Sharma, shot at her from point blank range at the court premises here and later shot at himself too. While the woman lawyer is dead, Sharma is battling for life at a local hospital, police said.

Manish Sharma, his wife Vandana and a lawyer by name Vineet Gulecha have been booked by the police, after Darvesh’s relatives lodged a police FIR. Manish and Darvesh were having a close association for the past over a decade, and it was Darvesh who helped rise from the level of a clerk to the level of an advocate of prominence, as per information provided to the media by some lawyers.

The immediate provocation for the murder remains a mystery, as Manish Sharma was among those who campaigned for Darvesh in the Bar Council election. ==IHN-NN
