MONSOON: Arrival delayed; likely to hit Kerala coast between June 6 and 9, says weatherman’s new report

NEWS MONSOON

NEW DELHI: Monsoon’s arrival has been delayed and is now expected to hit Kerala’s western shores on June 6 and 8. The Monsoon normally reaches here at the start of June. MeT director HR Biswas said, “Monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by June 6.”

The Indian Meteorological Department said it could be expected before June 8. Within a matter of five days after the onset, rains are expected also in states like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in a week’s time.

IMD predictions were accurate in recent times, and weatherman predicted the course and landfall of cyclones with great precision. However, it wavered in predicting the arrival of Monsoon this time to the Indian shores. Monsoon rains begin in Kerala and then clouds head upward to the east and north. IHN-NN
