PARLIAMENT: Session to start on June 17, Budget on July 5

NEW DELHI: The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha will start on June 17 and the Rajya Sabha from June 20. The session will continue till July 26. The election of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will be done on June 19. President Ram Nath Kovind will address a joint sitting of the Parliament on June 20. 

New MPs will be sworn in in the lower house at the start of the session with former minister Maneka Gandhi as pro-tem Speaker. It is the prerogative of the Prime Minister to select the pro-tem Speaker.

It is not known who would be the next Speaker, a post held by Sumitra Mahajan from Madhya Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha. The Economic Survey will be tabled on July 4 and the Union Budget by finance minister Nirama Sitharaman on July 5. IHN-NN
