PREZ’S CALL … President Kovind invites NDA leader Modi to form next government

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Saturday invited by President Ram Nath Kovind to form the next government. A letter to this effect was handed over to Modi when he called on the President, along with other NDA leaders, to stake claim for forming the next government.

The President asked the NDA leader to come up with a list of the new council of ministers and firm up a date for the swearing in.

Earlier in the day, Narendra Modi’s name was unanimously approved as leader of the NDA parliamentary party at its meet held in Parliament House. The participants mainly consisted of newly elected MPs and party leaders as also chief ministers of NDA-ruled states.

The Prime Minister, in his acceptance speech, urged new MPs and NDA leaders to make every effort to endear the minorities. Modi said his government would stand by all, work for all and seek to carry all together. He said the NDA should work for the poor and avoid VIP culture.

The victory at the hustings this time, he said, was handed down to the NDA by the poor of this country. Their needs must be addressed first and foremost. IHN-NN
