BJP SHOW: Massive turnout for Amit Shah’s rally in Kolkata to drum up support for BJP

KOLKATA: Stone pelting and other forms of violence marred a huge rally taken out in the eastern metropolis on Tuesday by BJP president Amit Shah, as the College Street saw pro-Trinamool students and BJP activists battling after the ralled passed by the area. A motorcycle was burnt and a bust of social reformer Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar broken during the street fight.
Amit Shah’s rally was largely attended — the first time a BJP rally had roads overflowing with supporters.
Amit Shah told television channels later that Trinamool Congress supporters with black flags attacked his party workers. He said he was to reach Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral home after the rally, but the police guided his vehicle to a different route. –IHN-NN
