PM ROADSHOW: Massive roadshow by PM Modi in Varanasi, Congress put on notice

NEW DELHI: The huge roadshow a day before the filing of nominations by Prime Minister Modi here on Thursday might also have forced the Congress leadership to quickly take a decision that Priyanka Gandhi need not contest this polls from Amethi. Varanasi was flooded with people drawn from various parts of the Lok Constituency by noon, in a more feverish manner than in 2014, and this seems to have put the Congress quickly on notice. 

In a jiffy, the announcement came in the afternoon that a candidate who came third in the 2014 poll would be re-fielded by the Congress this time from Varanasi. Modi’s roadshow, starting from Banaras Hindu University area was progressing this evening through a seven-km distance, with 150 planned receptions along the way. 

The Prime Minister will file his nomination papers for a second term in Parliament, from Varanasi on Friday. NDA leaders as also BJP’s top brass will be present in strength to urge the PM on in the constituency known for the confluence of Hinduism’s three holy rivers. –IHN-NN
