SOB STORY: Congress MP MK Raghavan in tears as he says sting op was a CPM conspiracy

KOZHIKODE: The Congress-UDF nominee for Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, MK Raghavan MP, burst into tears at a press conference he held here to deny an allegation that he tried to take a Rs five crore bribe for facilitating a land deal in this city.

Raghavan said the sting operation in this connection was done at the behest of the CPIM district leadership. This, he said, was done with the specific purpose of tarnishing his image at the time of LS polls. “I got the ticket for a third time after winning two times. And, this is a conspiracy against me,” he said of the sting operation done with hidden cameras by a team of an outstation TV channel, which told Raghavan they wanted to purchase a plot in Kozhikode town, and there were problems in the purchase.

They wanted his “intervention” and help, and a deal was struck under which the team would give Rs five crore to Raghavan through his private secretary in Delhi.

As per the expose, Raghavan also told the team, during secretly recorded discussions that he would require a lot of money to fight the polls, and that he had to spend Rs 20crore to win polls last time…

However, Raghavan said the whole taped conversation was fabrication, and he has complained about this to the EC and the police.

The Congress candidate burst into tears and kept wiping tears while he fumbled for words. EI-NN
