SRINAGAR: An army major and three other soldiers were killed Monday in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama, some 10km away from the scene of attack on CRPF convoy on February 14. Three terrorists were also killed in the gunfight, one of them said to be a commander of JeM who is believed to be a close aide of Jaish head Masood Azhar. His name was given as Kamran, and he was believed to be among those involved in planning the suicide attack on the CRPF convoy.
The encounter started at Pinglan area around midnight Sunday night and ended by afternoon on Monday.
An Afghan national Ghazi Rasheed, said to be an IED specialist, was among the killed terrorists. The soldiers killed the action belonged to the 55 Rashtriya Rifles. Reports said a civilian was also killed in the encounter. –IHN-NN
