BADMINTON: PV Sindhu wins gold by defeating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan at BWF World Tour Finals


GUANGZHOU (China): India’s Badminton sensation PV Sindhu was ecstatic after winning her maiden gold medal of 2018 by defeating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-19, 21-17 in the women’s singles final of the BWF World Tour Finals 2018 here Sunday.
Sindhu had lost at this very stage last year when she fielded herself against another Japanese – Akane Yamaguchi, she had lost a World Championships final to Okuhara last year. In a sensational turnaround on Sunday, Sindhu won the title. “I think it was a good game and I’m really very proud. I think the year has ended on a beautiful note,” she said.
Notably, the Hyderabad-born player had won silver medals at Rio Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, two World Championships, and BWF Super Series Finals (last year) but they were all silver and her mental fortitude was questioned every time.
